GILLETTE, NJ -- "Have you been ReNewed?" asked ReNew Salon and Spa owner Jeanine Laviola as she held up a T-shirt with that written on it. Laviola, had stopped at the display of beauty products and pieces of their clothing line, including the T-shirt, while she was giving a tour of the salon.

The former Berkeley Heights resident whose family, "including grandparents on both sides of the family," also come from the township, has been in the beauty salon business since she worked as a stylist and aestheticians at a salon in the King's Shopping Center in the 1990s. She stayed in Berkeley Heights when she opened her own salon through 2007.

In 2008, she decided it was time to expand the business, and moved to her current location,  550 Mountain Ave. in Gillette, just around the corner from Springfield Avenue.

"We doubled the space, enhanced the spa and added more employees," she said. Before she moved to Gillette, there were "two operators," and now there are "12 employees and we're still growing. I'm always looking for experienced operators." she said.

"My customers helped determine my hours," she said. ReNew Salon and Spa, which is a family salon, is open seven days a week, with two very early morning and three late nights," she said. "We come in early, stay late and pride ourselves on being on time,  Laviola said.

They also pride themselves on being active on social media. The website offers clients the opportunity to book their appointments online. Before booking, they can view the entire line of services offered -- from massages, body treatments, facials, hair and nails and waxing -- including prices. Along with the specialty treatments, the salon offers blowouts for people who want to "get their hair blown out for work," or parties she said. The salon also offers organic lines of hair products for those who are "in to renewing and revamping" themselves, she said.

The salon not only has convenient hours, it offers "a price point for everybody," from stylists and technicians who have all "trained under me," she said.  Even experienced operators train under Laviola, so she knows they are up to her standards.  "I'm very into education" for myself and employees and keeping abreast of "trends for clients," she said.

She said she recently started working Sundays and taking Saturdays off, so she can spend time with her family, husband Robert, owner of RJL General Contractors and two children, Felicia and Dominick.

Laviola said she "takes pride in my color" knowledge and experience, and specializes in working with curly hair.  "I go to DevaCurl in New York City," and she and another stylist are "certified" by DevaCurl in the use of their products.

Recently, ReNew introduced a new line of hair products from Amika. Learn about them here.

The spa is currently offering the following specials:

* Monday Spa Pedicure with Lindsay for $20

* Complimentary Haircut with a Hair Color Appointment with Heather

* Eyelash Extensions for $100

* And, they do Spray tans too!

With all that's going on in her life, she and her employees haven't forgotten giving back to the community -- they take part in events, including cut-a-thons and, have held an "extensions for autism" event.
