Ridge Baseball: Bates Blanks Bridgewater-Raritan, 1-0

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Senior right-hander Matt Bates pitched a three-hitter to lift Ridge to a 1-0 baseball victory over Bridgewater-Raritan on Thursday night.

Bates struck out seven and did not allow a walk. Ridge (11-3) scored its only run in the third inning. Ryan Pavlik doubled and was brought home on a single by Mike Rica.

Pavlik and Rica each finished with two hits for the Red Devils, who collected eight safeties against Tyler Holzappel of Bridgewater-Raritan (8-7), who struck out three in his six innings of work.

Ridge is scheduled to take on Immaculata in the quarterfinal round of the Somerset County Tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday in Basking Ridge.
