Ridge Girls and Boys Basketball Both Take 1st Round of States

BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - Ridge High's girls and boys varsity basketball teams both won their games on Monday in the first round of the State Tournament. Both Red Devils teams move on to the next round of the states with home games on Wednesday.

The Ridge Boys team faced North Hunterdon Regional High School for the first round of the Group 4 north section two state tournament, and wrapped up the evening game with a 50-39 victory. Ridge's leading scorer was senior Derek Lyons with 14 points.

The North Hunterdon Lions were in the lead at the end of the first three quarters, but Ridge pulled out the stops to pick up 21 points in the final quarter.

The Ridge boys are scheduled to play the next round of the tournament against Bridgewater-Raritan High School  at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Ridge High School, 268 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge.

Combined scoring pulls Ridge girls to victory

The Ridge girls entered the state tournament with a game against Woodbridge. The Red Devils won, 67-42, with Chrissy Weyrauch and Kristen Mueller scoring 16 points apiece to pace Ridge.

Sam Mahon contributed 10 points, and Monica Schumacher scored eight points. The Ridge girls will play the next round of the tournament against Westfield at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Ridge High School.
