TOMS RIVER, NJ -- The Ridge girls indoor track team won the Section 2, Group 4 championship at the Bennett Center in Toms River over the weekend.
The Red Devils' boys indoor track team placed second overall.
The Ridge girls had a team score of 69.5 to place them ahead of second-place Westfield, which had 57. It is Ridge's seventh sectional crown in a row. The Ridge boys' score of 64 was just four behind sectional titlist Elizabeth.
Three Ridge girls won gold medals. Senior Olivia Cicchetti won the 400-meter race in 59.92. Junior Morgan Lyons took the 800-meter race in 2:17.92. Junior Jennifer Hodges won the high jump at 5-00.00. Cicchetti also came in fourth in the 800 meters. Lyons was third in the 400 meters. Ridge's 4x400 meter relay team ran second in that event with a time of 4:03.75. Senior Katelyn King of Ridge came in third in the 3200-meter run in 11:24.46.
Alexa Mark, Grace LaCapra, Manon Stephen, Tatum Peskin, Samantha Shimsky, Maura Mendenilla, Sarah Castronovo, Leila Cheo-Isaacs, Dylan Kenny and Lily Lorio of Ridge all had top 10 finishes in their events.
In the boys sectional meet, sophomore Jackson Barna of Ridge won the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:33.71. Sophomore James Kisker was second in the 800 meters in 1:59.30. Taking bronze medals with third-place finishes were Luke Roberts in the 400 meters (50.97) and the 800 meters (2:02.17), Barna in the 1600 meters (4:24.13), Jake Dobrowolski in the 3200 meters (9:43.44), Alex Petric in the pole vault (12-06.00) and the Red Devils' 4x400 meter relay team (Roberts, Kisker, Vicente, Alex Sargen).
Other Ridge runners with top 10 finishes were Will Pinto, Jake Vicente, Joey Gilligan and Ben Youtkus.
