BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills (THSSH) presented Jack Browne with a scholarship on Wednesday, May 29 at the Brick Academy Museum in Basking Ridge.
Browne has been a volunteer “Young Historian” with THSSH for two years and has assisted in a number of activities including Charter Day, Lord Stirling Day, THSSH’s 90th Anniversary BBQ, historical research and exhibit design and installation.
He is a senior at Ridge High School, where he is on the fencing team (Saber Captain). Browne will attend American University in the fall to pursue studies in Foreign Relations.
The focus of THSSH is to preserve and promote history in the Somerset Hills, including Bedminster, Bernards Twp, Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack & Gladstone, New Jersey. THSSH uses the historic Brick Academy located at 15 West Oak Street in Basking Ridge for its headquarters and public meetings. The main floor of THSSH is a museum with local history exhibits. The upper floor is a restored school room that runs programs suited for children. The lower level is a research area, complete with file archives, books, and a computer. The Brick Academy facility is open typically on the first Sunday of every month as well as whenever there is a program.
