Ridge Marching Band 2014 Season in Full Swing

BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Ridge Marching band 2014 season officially began last week--even though there were several sectionals throughout the summer.

“Despite the long days, hot weather and sunburns, I think that all members have been having a good time learning the show music and drill and getting to know one another. Mr. (Daniel) Zugale told me last night that he has never seen a group of kids learn as much of the show in so short a time. I must tell you, he looked very pleased,” said Jen Kluger, an eight-year marching band parent who for the last six years has been president of the Ridge High School Band Association, an active parent organization that supports the Ridge Marching Band.

The parents of the 88 members of this year’s band came together for the annual Meet & Greet last week to watch a preview performance of the 2014 show: "Playing with Fire."

“I think the kids did great, this band camp we learned the entire show, the guard has like three numbers almost done, kids are learning great, there doing what we’re asking, It’s fantastic,” added George Mattis, head of color guard instruction.

The 2014 season features performances at various competitions, including its own annual marching band competition on Oct. 25 in Basking Ridge that will feature more than 16 bands.

The show “Playing With Fire” features the following music:

“The Games Begin” and “The Tour” from the movie “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” music composed by James Newton Howard

“Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys

“Fire” by Jimi Hendrix

“Kingfishers Catch Fire” by John Mackey

“Firebird Suite” by Igor Stravinsky

 The Ridge Marching Band is directed by Mr. Dan Zugale who is in his sixth year as director of Bands. Other coaching staff members include:

Woodwind Section Leaders:          Aaron Klein and Rachel Siegel 

Brass Section Leaders:                   Cole Hoffman and Andrew McKeon

Percussion Section Leaders:        Josh Kluger and Milli Langston

The band will also perform this season in Yamaha Cup competition at MetLife Stadium, and at the NJ State championships at Rutgers High Point Solutions.

Bedminster Woman Dies From Injuries After Being Struck by Car at Bridgewater Mall Parking Lot

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Bedminster woman has died from her injuries after being struck by a car in the parking lot of the Bridgewater Commons Mall on Monday.

Marion Kelley, 62, was struck by a vehicle while walking in Lot 4 near the Macy's merchandise pick up area at around 3:20 p.m. Monday.
