Basking Ridge,NJ- On Thursday April 2nd, the Ridge International Dance Ensemble will perform at 7pm at the Ridge High School Performing Arts Center.
”I had originally wanted to start a Indian dance club, as I had been learning Indian classical dance for over 7 years and its always had been a dream to take my dance out of the classroom,” said Asha Krishnan, president of the Ridge International Dance Ensemble. She and her sister Savitha, President of Ridge Contemporary a Cappella club, with their club supervisors, Madame Gozlan and Ms. Presuto, have been working to create a new performance for the newest performing arts clubs. This week their hard work will come to life on stage of the Ridge PAC.
The Dance Ensemble will perform individual pieces in a variety of styles such as belly dancing, Irish dancing, and ballet.  After this first performance, Asha hopes to have collaborations between choreographers and different dance styles and cultures.
While the Ridge International Dance Ensemble will provide the dance portion of the show, the Contemporary A cappella club will sing five songs, three of which are original arrangements organized by some of its 13 members. The performance includes hit songs from artists such as John Legend, Bastille, Mumford and Sons plus some classics from Billy Joel. This club originated from both the popular choir program at Ridge and the Director, Mrs. Retzko's choices of popular songs.  “We never really had the chance to do radio hits and other popular songs and with the rising popularity of A cappella with groups like Pentatonix and movies like Pitch Perfect, I thought it was the perfect time to establish a group to do more contemporary A Cappella music”
Savitha shared.  Both girls’ ambition is to create enjoyable and authentic performances for the audiences to enjoy and to develop the club’s future possibilities. Thursday’s performance will be the first of many for the clubs, with The title A Night of the Arts, the show has promise to display a variety of energetic and cultural performances for no cost to the audience besides donations to Dancing Dreams.
