BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The meteoric rise of the Ridge High School softball program over the last several seasons is epitomized by its representation on the 2019 Skyland Conference All-Raritan Division Team.
Three Red Devils were named to the first team, another three made second team and one was given honorable mention by the conference's coaches when the vote was held after the season concluded.
Shortstop Annabelle Hamilton, catcher/first baseman Allegra DeCandia and pitcher Mia Robb of Ridge all were named to the division's first team. Hamilton, a junior, led a high-scoring Ridge lineup with a .526 batting average, five triples and 27 runs scored. DeCandia, a junior, topped the Red Devils in runs batted in with 24 and batted .406. Robb, a sophomore, was 9-5 as a pitcher and batted .422 with 23 RBI.
First baseman Amanda Leitz, second baseman Alexis Soulias and pitcher Sophia Berger of Ridge have been selected to the second team. Leitz, a senior, batted .397 with 18 RBI; Soulias, a senior, batted .348; and Berger, a junior who split pitching time with Robb, issued just seven walks in 54 innings pitched while batting .382.
Junior outfielder Lauren Lusardi of Ridge was accorded honorable mention by the conference coaches. Lusardi batted .408 with 15 RBI.
Ridge was 16-8 and reached the Somerset County Tournament championship game this season, the third under head coach Jackie Tarulli, who has built the program into a county power after the Red Devils were 7-16 the season prior to her arrival.
