BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - If the Mahdavian family, whose home on Woods End Drive was severely damaged by fire on March 5, could measure their luck in the support of the community, they should find much to boost their spirits.
Friends and neighbors started a GoFundMe Donation site just a few days following the fire to help the family get back on their feet, after the fierce fire which left much of their house charred.
Despite reportedly losing many of their belongings, all the family members, including their dog, were able to safely exit the house after being alerted by smoke detectors, according to a township police release.
Along with financial contributions, those who drive by the home, located not far from the William Annin Middle School, will see signs erected on the front lawn by neighbors, organized by the Heartworks organization, including well wishes from children.
Heartworks, located on Route 202 in Basking Ridge, on the Bernardsville, issued an invitation last Sunday for those who wanted to make a "Sign of Love" for the Mahdavians.
"Let's cover the front yard in beautifully decorated signs!" the invitation said. Heartworks provided the supplies.
Meanwhile, as of 10 p.m. on March 19, the amount of donations on the GoFundMe collection page set up specifically for the Mahdavian family, had reached $50,823.
The GoFundMe page said that the donations are intended to help Sharif, Stacey, Anastasia, Andrew, and Alex Mahdavian rebuild their lives, as well as to buy staples lost in the fire.
