WOODBRIDGE, NJ - The Ridge High softball team evened its record and advanced in the state tournament, defeating Woodbridge, 9-7, in the opening round of the Section 2, Group 4 tournament Wednesday.

Winning pitcher Sophia Berger went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and two RBI for the Red Devils (11-11), who overcame a 4-2 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. Jordan Richman also hit a home run and Annabelle Hamilton singled in a run for Ridge.

Berger pitched all seven innings in 90-degree heat, allowing just three earned runs.
