Somerset Hills YMCA Holding Free Open House to Inspire Health in New Year

Learn how to bring your workout indoors and check out options to keep your family active and healthy this winter. 

BERNARDS TWP., NJ– Every January, nearly 70 percent of Americans make at least one New Year’s Resolution - most commonly including healthy lifestyle changes.

To help area residents acheive those goals, the Somerset Hills YMCA is holding an Open House to help everyone start the year on the right foot. Individuals and families are invited to visit the Y on January 9 to learn how to start making a ‘better you’ in the supportive environment of the YMCA.

The Somerset Hills YMCA facility located at 140 Mt. Airy Road will host special events from 9 a.m. to noon.

Creating personal change takes effort, active involvement, encouragement and support, according to the YMCA.

The Y will partner with individuals on their quest to achieve personal goals, providing programs and services that strengthen individuals and communities.

Whether it’s becoming healthier, trying new activities, spending time with family, making new friends, or making a difference in the community, the YMCA has set a goal of building better individuals to build a better community. 

Area YMCAs step in daily to give people a place to play, learn and be healthy. “With the start of the new year, everyone resolves to improve. We help people and families build and maintain healthy habits for spirit, mind and body in their everyday lives,” says David M. Carcieri, President and CEO, Somerset County YMCA.

“Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when neighbors come together for the common good," Carcieri said.

The Somerset Hills YMCA strives to offer individuals, seniors and families a unique sense of community by providing a place to gather and support each other in a healthy social environment. The YMCA offers financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

All are invited to visit their local YMCA's Open House on January 9 for further information on membership.

Some of the planned activities at Somerset Hills YMCA include:

• Getting active: Join a fitness class or get info on our Multisport Club for those interested in workout buddies or triathlons
• Making a splash: Family and Open Swim from 1:30 pm – 6:30 pm
• Focusing on wellness: Health assessments from our trained staff
• Eating well: Small, sustainable changes to help achieve your goals from Nutritionists
• Cancer support: Info on LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, the Y’s free 12-week cancer recovery program 
• In-depth tours: See all the Y has to offer with one of our membership representatives
