Somerville: Arts on Division '17 Festival is an Amalgamation of Vision and Sound

SOMERVILLE, NJ – It's all about the arts - live music, photography, videos, sing-a-longs and workshops will be featured Sept. 14-17 in downtown Somerville as a prelude to the Sunday, Sept. 17, Central Jersey Jazz Festival.

Arts On Division, the sponsoring organization, is dedicated to building community in Somerville and the region through the arts and arts education by promoting the advancement, development and support of the visual, musical, physical and literary arts,

On Thursday, Sept. 14, the Festival will open at 6 p.m. with the "Gallery Walk," a tour of Gallery on Main, Gallery on Division and Three Hearts Home, each hosting an opening reception with refreshments and live music.

Artist Jerome Gonzalez will create an interactive photo illustration on West Main Street while performers Day de Dada entertain throughout the evening. On Friday, Sept. 15, guitarist Terrance Haupt will perform on Division Street from 6-7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 16 is a busy day on Division Street beginning with  Art All Day from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; an Artisan Market featuring the works of 18 artists; the Bob Lanza Blues Band preforming from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.; Cube painting Session #1 featuring artists Elan Wonder, Mimi, Jenna Morello, and Brainpaste; a Drum Solo Competition from 1:30-3 p.m.; Cube Painting #2 featuring Leon Rainbow, Pest, El Gento, and Jerome Gonzalez; the Whitehouse Wind Symphony from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Mail Order Bride in performance from 5-7 p.m.

Children’s activities, guitar workshops for kids, sing-a-longs and school art shows will be available throughout the day.

A collection of videos created by Raritan Valley Community College students will be broadcast in storefronts throughout the evening.

Sunday’s feature will be the Somerville Jazz Festival from 1-6 p.m. on East Main Street. The festival extends over three days, beginning Friday, Sept. 15 in Flemington, moving to New Brunswick Saturday, Sept. 16 and closing in Somerville on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Artists will have drawings, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photographs, and clothing available for purchase.
