State Police Investigating Two Crashes, Two Fatalities on I-78 in Warren

WARREN, NJ - Two fatalities and serious injuries in two separate crashes in the same location wrecked havoc on Interstate 78 on Saturday night.   Major traffic delays were reported in both directions according to motorists and local police.

A vehicle that did not stop for state troopers crashed off Interstate 78, killing both occupants, State Police said. "Troopers followed the vehicle for approximately three miles before the driver lost control and ran off of the road to the right into a wooded area," State Police said in a statement.

At the same location, near mile marker 38 in Warren Township, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in separate crash, the statement said. Both the driver and the pedestrian were hospitalized. The driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to Morristown Memorial hospital.The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to the same hospital with unspecified injuries, police said.

No troopers were injured in either crash.

State Police said an "extensive" investigation was ongoing and additional details were not immediately available.
