BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ The Bernards Township Library's summer reading program that each year attracts many participants is now underway, with a theme for 2019 of “A Universe of Stories – Summer Reading programs for Children, Teens, and Adults."
Enrollment already began earlier in June, and will continue throughout the summer. The Bernards Township Library is located at 32 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge.
Summer reading activities pay off year-round, supporting academics and developing lifelong habits associated with enjoyable reading materials, the library staff advises parents. More information is available on the Bernards Township Library website at www.BernardsLibrary.org.
These days, parents also have their own version of a summer reading program, also with special events planned for the next few months.
Register at Children's desk at library
Children of all ages and abilities are invited to join by register at the Children’s Desk in the library, where they will receive a log to keep track of time spent reading. When a section of the log is completed, children bring it back to the Library and can collect a reward.
Summer Reading is free and there will be special events all summer long:
• Magician Brian Richards wows with 3, 2, 1…Blast Off into Books on June 24.
• Art Kids Academy’s A Universe of Stories on July 1.
• Bright Star Theatre’s production One Small Step on July 9.
• Sciencetellers bring interactive experiments and storytelling with Aliens: Escape from Earth on July 16.
• The Magic of Sharks will be revealed in an educational and entertaining comedy-magic show on July 22.
Teens can pick up reading log at reference desk, earn volunteer hours
Teens are also encouraged to visit the library and pick up a reading log at the reference desk. Students entering grades 7 through 12 will receive digital raffle tickets for books read and reviewed, and for attending special events offered during the summer including a writing contest, author visits, Monday Movies, Library Laser Tag and Human Foosball and more.
Teens also can earn volunteer hours assisting with the planning and delivery of the Children’s Summer Reading Closing Celebration.
Adults receive free book for signing up
Adults are invited to enter to win prizes by reading, rating and perhaps posting a review for a new book or an old favorite on our BTL Summer Reading Blog. Everyone gets a free book just for signing up.
