RARITAN, NJ - Tim Hortons Café and Bake Shop held its official grand opening ceremony Wednesday, celebrating its opening just off the Somerville Circle in Raritan.

“We are very happy to have this shop here,” Raritan Mayor Chuck McMullin said. “It portends good news because Raritan is back.”

McMullin was joined at the grand opening by council president Denise Carra, councilman Andy Sibilia, borough administrator Dan Jaxel, borough engineer Stan Shrek, construction official Lou Gara, police chief Kenneth McCormick and members of the fire and police departments.

Somerset County Freeholder Director Pat Walsh said it is good to get a quality chain in the area because of the quality of the shop and how it is maintained.

“It builds confidence in the area,” she said.

Kerrim Jivani, owner of the Raritan store, said it was nice to bring this brand to an area that has a connection to three different towns right outside its doors.

“This brand needs this town to show it off,” he said. “This is a high end brand with high quality food.”

Tim Hortons is known for its coffee, donuts, muffins and other café and bakery items. The first one opened in 1964 in Canada, with the first American one opening in 1985 in Amherst, NY.
