Tour of Raritan Bike Race Coming Memorial Day Weekend

RARITAN, NJ - Raritan Borough is holding two special bike events May 28, in conjunction with the Tour of Somerville during Memorial Day weekend.

The first is the Family Fun Bike Ride, with check in at 10 a.m., and people meeting at the corner of Somerset and Anderson streets. Families can ride the course the professionals will be riding, and participants can wear the same color in support of their participation.

Money raised during the event will be used for community events, programs and the sports department for the borough. The fee is $5 per family, and checks should be made payable to Raritan Community Programs and Events and sent to 22 1st Street, Raritan, NJ 08869.

“We hope the community will join us for this fun new event,” Linda Schulte, community events and programs coordinator for Raritan, said in a release. “Our committee has been busy reaching out to the community, inviting them to come on out and have some fun.”

Then, the Tour of Raritan is the professional and world famous bike race, with the first beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the last riding at 4:30 p.m.

“It will be exciting to have the professional riders down the streets of Raritan," Schulte said. “The town is ready and excited to have them. We’re hoping for a nice day and decent crowd.”

In addition, there will be a Kid’s Corner on Anderson and Somerset streets to raise awareness of healthy choices for kids and everyone.

The vendors participating will be Michael’s Miracles, the American Diabetes Association in Bridgewater, Bridgewater and Somerville YMCAs, Evolution Training Center and The Little Gym of Montgomery/Hillsborough.
