The deer hunt is part of the Bernards Township deer management program on Somerset County Park Commission property in Basking Ridge, including both the EEC and Lord Stirling Stable lands, according to a spokesman for the park commission, Rich Reitman. He said the park commission has been working in cooperation with Bernards Township's program for almost 20 years.
The deer management program in Bernards Township has been using the hunt as one way to reduce the deer population, resulting in a reduced number of deer-motor vehicle collisions.
