BERNARDS TWP., NJ - A subject that has provoked a lot of discussion both in public and in private during the last year or, "Trends in Mental Health," is on the agenda for Monday's scheduled Bernards Board of Education meeting.
The presentation before the board is scheduled to be led by Jillian Shadis, director of school counseling for township schools, and a member of the Ridge High School counseling department. Shadis also is a member of the school district's Crisis Management and Traumatic Loss committees.
In recent school years, parents, students, school officials and other community groups in the area have focused on student stress, reported suicides of Ridge teens, and incidences of substance abuse by local youths. A student group was started at Ridge so students could meet to talk about issues concerning them.
The public portion of the meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, at the William Annin Middle School, 70 Quincy Road in Basking Ridge.
Monday's agenda also includes an update on the student device initiative.
