MONTCLAIR, NJ - The sounds of "What If" will be presented in an intimate setting in the 73 See Gallery in Montclair on Sunday afternoon when Stephanie Griffin, principal violist of the Princeton Symphony meets up for a musical match with jazz bassist Hilliard Green to create "daring, utterly beautiful music," said organizers Seed Artists.
Griffin, cofounder of the Momenta Quartet, has been a collaborator with jazz innovators from Butch Morris to Anthony Braxton. She has premiered new works from today's leading modern composers and performed on the sand dunes of the Gobi desert.
Beyond his own groups, Greene's many musical credits include playing with Cecil Taylor, Jason Moran, Charles Gayle, Kenny Barron, Vijay Iyer, Dave Douglas, the Village Vanguard Orchestra and The Inkspots.
Greene worked as musical director for the singer Jimmy Scott for 20 years, and is a musical educator.
This is the second in the concert series to be presented by Seed Artists, which is supported by musicians and volunteers from throughout New York and New Jersey, including Essex and Somerset counties.
The 4 p.m. concert will be preceded by a discussion with the musicians.
As always, children are welcome. Refreshments served. Proceeds fund the series.
