BERNARDS TWP., NJ - You've watched the U.S. Presidential debates, and have decided (or maybe haven't) who you'll cast your ballot for. But in order to vote, you have to be registered.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 18, 21 days before the Nov. 8 election.

Potential voters can download the form for registration on the Bernards Township website, fill out the form and sign it. The form is pre-addressed to the Somerset County Commission of Registration, with no postage required, but must be received by the deadline, according to the township website and the voter registration page on the Somerset County website.

[Update] Township Clerk Denise Szabo said on Tuesday that forms also are available for pickup at the municipal clerk's office at town hall, 1 Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge. However, with the deadline so close, she said she would prefer residents to mail the forms directly to the county rather than leaving them at her office.

The form cannot be faxed or electronically submitted because the voter who is registering must provide an original signature.
