WAMS MathCounts Team Wins 2nd Place in Regional Competition

BASKING RIDGE,NJ- The William Annin Middle School (WAMS) MathCounts team won second place in the Mercer County Regional MathCounts Chapter Competition held at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor on Saturday, Feb. 3. The team members of four 8th graders Kevin Cong, Daniel Xia, Andrew Zhang and Eric Zhu competed with the best math students from around 20 schools in Mercer, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties and came in second in the team competition.

In addition to the WAMS team members, five individual students Christopher Dong, Yash Samtani, Mattew Faltas, Jessica Liu and Ethan Ji also participated in the competition. In the individual award competition, Kevin Cong finished 2nd, Daniel Xia  6th, and Yash Samtani won 10th place.

Mercer County Chapter is highly competitive with participation of strongest school teams from region. The WAMS team will be advancing to the state competition in March 10 at Rutgers University. The WAMS community is extremely proud of the students, their accomplishments and the success they bring to the school. Congratulations to the WAMS mathematicians and their teacher/coaches!

MathCounts is regarded as the most prestigious competition of middle school mathematics in the U.S.  Winners of the chapter competitions advance to state and national competitions.
