WARREN, NJ -  Laura Jacobson, a 12 year old Warren sixth grader, is going to Nationals.

Competition at the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be held January 15-24 and in the U.S. skating community, the event is often referred to informally as "Nationals".

Jacobson holds the title of U.S. figure skating North Atlantic Juvenile silver medalist and is the Juvenile Ladies Eastern Sectional Champion. She earned one of the four spots to compete at Nationals and her performance can be viewed Saturday Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. on ice network. http://www.icenetwork.com

Jacobson began skating a week before her fifth birthday. Her dream is to compete for Team USA internationally and one day to represent the United States at the Olympics.

She is on her way.

The U.S. Figure Skating Championships is held annually to crown the national champions of the United States. The competition is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating with past winners including Michelle Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Scott Hamilton. Medals are awarded in four disciplines: men's, women's, pairs, and ice dancing on five levels, senior, junior, novice, intermediate, and juvenile. The event is also used to determine the U.S. teams.

Jacobson's hard work, dedication and regimented schedule has paid off. She currently attends Laurel Springs online academy and trains six days a week at the Ice House in  Hackensack with coaches Steven Rice, Roman Serov, Anya Zadorozhniuk and other specialized coaches.

Laura's father Alan Jacobson said, "I'm extremely proud of Laura's dedication, confidence and grace heading into nationals regardless of how she does. This season Laura scored the highest point total ever of a juvenile skater at the Mid Atlantic's skating competition."

When not skating, Jacobson can be seen singing and dancing around town with her childhood friends, and attending local classes in dance, musical theater and religious instruction. Her day begins off ice at 8:30 a.m and ends at 4 p.m. with weekends and the 4:30-6:30 p.m. time slots reserved for school work.

And this week was even busier.

Jacobson received a Proclamation from the Mayor of Hackensack NJ on Tuesday and is hitting the rink a few more times before flying out to Nationals. After the Warren bonfire on Saturday, make sure to catch her on http://www.icenetwork.com at 7:30 p.m.
