SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Somerset County YMCA's International Festival to celebrate the county's diverse community through food, music, fashions and more will be held this year at the Somerville YMCA, a move from its previous location at the Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge.

The combined Somerset County YMCA announced this week that the 20th Annual International Festival will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Somerville YMCA.

The festival, which celebrates cultural diversity throughout the world and in the regional community, will move for the first time to the Somerville YMCA, a more central location in the county. The Somerville YMCA is at 2 Green St. in Somerville. The phone number is  908-722-4567.

The free festival will celebrate many cultures in many ways - through music, dance, costume, games - and tastes of cuisines from around the world.

The volunteer-led event will provide kids with “passports” to get stamped when they visit countries represented at the International Festival, which will include Holland, Macedonia, India, Pakistan, Paraguay, Tanzania, Dominican Republic and more.

A fun fashion walk will showcase native costumes from around the globe.

All in Somerset County welcome to attend free event

All in Somerset County are welcome. Although the event is free to attendees, a suggested donation will go to the YMCA’s World Campaign supporting YMCAs around the globe that offer services in areas with difficult social and economic conditions.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about and celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our community,” said Sylvia Velez, Director of Volunteer Engagement at the YMCA.  “I am always inspired by the many volunteers who, for 20 years, have come together to create this spectacular celebration.”

“We’re excited to be bringing this event to Somerville YMCA for the first time and look forward to providing an opportunity for everyone to experience and enjoy the different cultures of our communities," Velez added.

Attendees are encouraged to bring foreign currency to the festival, which also will be donated to the YMCA's World Service Campaign. For more information on the event, visit or contact Sylvia Velez at 908-630-3530.
