Make this your year to volunteer.

As we enter February and the enthusiasm in keeping those New Year Resolutions begins to fade, consider listening to the voice of volunteerism to spark a sense of purpose. Make this your year to volunteer. Volunteering improves health and happiness and life satisfaction. "Volunteering fosters deep happiness because it satisfies a primal human wish to solve problems and work together." - Deb Carlin, author of Build the Strength Within: Create the Blueprint For Your Best Life Yet.

Bernards Township resident Nicole Smith recently joined the Hunterdon Chamber as host of the weekly program Happy to Help, showcasing the good work, goodwill and volunteer opportunities available in New Jersey and around the world. Nicole invites donors, volunteers, staffers and supporters from various charities to share their stories with the intent of inspiring others to find a cause they care about and engage.

In our mega media society where race, religion and politics divide those cocooned within their own socioeconomic bubbles, volunteering offers an opportunity to interact with people of different opinions, ages and stages for the common good. Volunteering offers perspective.
