BALTIMORE -- Senior basketball player Max Mahoney, a native of Basking Ridge, N.J., earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors after leading Boston University in points, rebounds, assists and steals last week.
A 6-foot-8 center, Mahoney averaged 20.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists in two victories in which he shot 70.8 percent from the field.
Mahoney started off with 23 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and a then personal-best six assists with two steals against Lehigh. The double-double was his first of the year and 11th total in his career. He followed up with 18 points, nine rebounds and a new career-high eight assists in a victory over Army.
Mahoney also moved up to No. 13 all-time in the BU record book at 1,300 points while still maintaining a school-record 61.5 field goal percentage.
In Boston University's 85-53 road victory over Loyola of Baltimore Monday night, Mahoney scored eight of his nine points in the first half, when the Terriers (4-1 in the Patriot League) exploded out to a 42-17 lead in a game shown nationally on CBS Sports Network.
