BEDMINSTER, NJ - The Bedminster Township Committee and the Bedminster Farmers Market Advisory Committee are excited to announce that the Bedminster Farmers Market is returning for its third season starting Saturday, June 6 at River Road Park.

The Bedminster Farmers Market will be held every Saturday, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Township’s River Road Park located at the corner of Routes 202/206 south and River Road and will run through Saturday, October 31.  The Bedminster Farmers Market provides support to our local farmers and provides an opportunity for our residents and our neighbors along the Route 202/206, Route 287 and Route 78 corridors to purchase fresh locally-sourced foods, locally-grown produce, including organic produce, quality prepared foods, and other agricultural products.

This season, the Bedminster Farmers Market is bigger than ever and features over 20  vendors each week offering a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, greens and herbs, local cider, local wine, mushrooms, nuts and dried fruit, French pastries, coal-fired brick oven breads, gluten free baked goods, nut butters, bean to bar chocolates, cheeses, pastas, local whole grains and flour, eggs, flowers, honey, soups, oil and vinegars, organic coffees and tea, all natural pasture-raised Angus beef, pork, chicken, small batch New York style deli pickles, pickled condiments, olives, relishes and tapenades, and more!

As always, opening day of the Bedminster Farmers Market will be special.  The Township will provide customers with reusable Bedminster Farmers Market bags (one per family please and while supplies last) and packets of basil and parsley seeds for growing herbs.  These Two Guys, the Bedminster Farmers Market’s very own house band, will be playing music to ring in the new season.

Bedminster Mayor Lawrence Jacobs noted “that since farmers markets had been designated as “essential retail” there never was a question about whether we would run the market.  The only issue was how we would run it.  While we only started the market in June of 2018, our residents have quickly adopted the Bedminster Farmers Market as one of the mainstays of the community.  We needed to figure out how we could provide the market experience without compromising safety.  We looked at guidance from the CDC and the Department of Agriculture as well as examining how other markets were operating.  We have the terrific advantage of being located in River Road Park, which not only gives us a beautiful venue but also gives us the opportunity to easily incorporate social distancing.  The layout and operation of the market may feel a little different this season, but each step that we are taking is to provide a safe and comfortable experience for our vendors and our visitors.”

To start off the season, the Bedminster Farmers Market will:

  • Situate vendors ten feet apart and control the entry into the market to maintain social distancing;
  • Designate separate entrance and exit points for customers to encourage one-way flow;
  • Require vendors and customers to wear face coverings;
  • Encourage customers to pre-order from our vendors and encourage vendors to use touchless pay options;
  • Restrict eating to outside the market area; and,
  • Place hand sanitizing stations throughout the market.

Mayor Jacobs, who was instrumental in creating the Bedminster Farmers Market, added “open air farmers markets may be the safest places to shop.  We hope the fresh air at River Road Park and friendly social distance reminders will give shoppers peace of mind during these uncertain times.  We are optimistic that we can ease some of the restrictions as the season commences.”   Mayor Jacobs also noted that the Bedminster Farmers Market will provide an opportunity as a drop off location for donation of packaged goods to the Bedminster Pop-Up Food Panty.  “As long as we are still operating the food pantry, we should make donating as convenient as we can.”

“River Road Park is an ideal location for the Bedminster Farmers Market.  It serves as the gateway to Bedminster’s agricultural community,” said Mayor Jacobs.  “The park is centrally located between the Township’s population centers and is easily accessible from all points via the Township’s Hike & Bike trail and the park has plenty of parking.”

The Bedminster Farmers Market is supported and managed by Bedminster Township and administered through the Bedminster Township Farmers Market Advisory Committee.
