Makers Day at Bernardsville Library

Join us at Bernardsville Public Library on Saturday, March 21 to take part in the sixth annual New Jersey Makers Day.  On this day, communities around the state offer hands-on programming opportunities, demonstrations and displays celebrating the maker culture.  Each year, the number of participants has grown: in 2019, there were 303 participating locations spread across 20 New Jersey counties.  These locations hosted an estimated 2,755 individual programs, with a total estimated attendance of 83,290!

This year, at Bernardsville Library, we’ll have workshops for both children and adults.  There is no charge to participate in any of the programs.  Here’s what’s on tap:

From 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, children ages 3 to 11 years are invited to sculpt safari animals, magical creatures, dinosaurs, sea monsters, friendly aliens, lions, tigers, and bears at the Clay Bar!  YOU dream it, YOU build it!  Join MOMI (Museum of Imagination + Innovation) in this brain-building activity that combines learning with fun.  All children are welcome, and they will use their creativity to make something special!  It’s free and no sign-up is needed.

Adults are invited to try a hand at quilling, an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, looped, shaped, and glued together to create beautiful decorative designs.  There will be two hour-long workshops, at 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm, led by Nhi Nguyen.  Supplies will be provided.  Free.  Advance sign-up is required, since space is limited, at www.bernardsvillelibrary.org; follow the link from Adult Programs.

Also meeting, at 3:00 pm, is the Saturday Crafters group, also part of the maker culture.  The group meets monthly, and individuals are invited to bring their own handwork projects to the Library and work together in a comfortable, communal setting while enjoying the benefits of shared tips and conversation.  They may learn a new skill or share their expertise.  New members are always welcome; there is no charge to attend the meeting, and no sign-up is needed.

For more information on any of these events, call the library at 908-766-0118.
