BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ A major holiday event returns to downtown Basking Ridge on this Saturday, Dec. 7, with the 6th Annual Winter Market and Christmas Tree Lighting, including live holiday performances, from noon to 7 p.m.. The official lighting of this year's holiday tree is set for 5:30 p.m.
The volunteer Basking Ridge Fire Co. relocated and set up the tree last Saturday in preparation for the holiday season.
The Winter Market and Tree Lighting will be held in conjunction with Homespun Holidays, sponsored by the United Methodist Women, at Bishop Janes United Methodist Church at 22 S. Finley Ave. in downtown Basking Ridge. That returning holiday market, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. will offer childrens' toys, gourmet foods and baked goods, crafts and quilted items, and more according to the sign place week in front of the church.
Christmas tree sales will be underway
Bishop Janes also will be holding its annual Christmas tree and wreath sale in front of the church.
The Winter Market is organized by each year by the Basking Ridge Business Alliance. With more than 50 local vendors and artisans, the Winter Market offers shopping for holiday wares and an opportunity to pick up gifts for family and friends.
Local arts organizations will be performing throughout the day, and there will be opportunities for children to make holiday crafts, according to the BRBA.
Other downtown activities are also scheduled. Visitors can head to the Bernards Township Library for holiday crafts from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. They can also enjoy holiday card coloring from 3 to 5 p.m. with Mr. Local History on the heated patio of the Washington House Restaurant, 55 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge.
At 5:30 p.m., the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony begins. Members of the William Annin Middle School choir will sing carols, and the tree will officially be lit.
After the tree lighting, it will be time to visit Santa from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Ridge Family Dentistry building,
