BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ The retirements of two physical education and health teachers were accepted by the Bernards Township Board of Education at its meeting on Monday, Feb. 24. The school board also accepted the resignation of two teachers and a number of instructional aides.

Sarah deMarrais, who works at William Annin Middle School, and Siobhan Devlin of Ridge High School will both leave at the end of the school year.

Devlin established the girls golfing program at Ridge, and led the team to pick up a number of winning seasons before retiring from the coaching position. Devlin said she began coaching the girls golf team beginning in fall 1987. Ridge won five Tournament of Champion titles during Devlin's tenure as head girls golf coach.

Linda McNally, an instructional aide at William Annin Middle School, gave notice of her retirement, effective June 30.

Ridge student assistance counselor resigns

The Board of Education accepted the resignation of Toni Anthony, a student assistance counselor at Ridge High School, effective April 3.

Carolyn Johnson, a kindergarten teacher at Cedar Hill School, resigned effective April 3, and Jan Ritter, a math teacher at the middle school, resigned as of Feb. 14.

Other resignations were received from three instructional aides: Bonni Buckingham at William Annin Middle School as of Feb. 14; Desiree Sommerville at Mount Prospect School on or before March 20 and Dominic Vignali at Ridge High School on or before March 19.

Melanie Steinberg, a school aide at Liberty Corner School, resigned as Feb. 28. 

The board also rescinded the appointment of Sharonda Strothers as an instructional aide at William Annin Middle School. 

The board made two maternity leave replacement hires: Kerry Bowden-Testa as a special education teacher for Mount Prospect School from Feb. 25 to April 13, and Anne Duque as a school counselor for Mount Prospect School from March 23 through June 30.

Linda Picardo was hired as an instructional aide at Cedar Hill School from Feb. 25 through June 18. 

The board approved three paid child care leaves. One is for Kristin Arrigoni, an instructional aide at Mount Prospect School, starting June 2 and returning Nov. 25. Another is for Caitlin Celebre, a speech teacher at Mount Prospect School, from June 3 to Feb. 1, 2021, The third is for Marissa Fuellhart, an English language arts teacher at WAMS, from April 2 to Dec. 1.
