BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A group of parents and students in the Bernards Township School District will be holding a demonstration Friday afternoon to protest the Board of Education's decision to delay the opening of schools.
The group will be protesting the recent decision by the school board to delay in-class learning until at least Oct. 1. Protestors will be assembling in the parking lot of Ridge High School at 3 p.m. Friday.
By the time the academic year begins in September with an all-online start to the school year, it will have been six months since students were in school. Among the reasons given for the district keeping classrooms shut are staffing, facility and supply issues.
Organizers of the demonstration are requesting that anyone participating Friday afternoon wear a mask and maintain proper social distance.
