BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - With the school year approaching next week, the Bernards Township Board of Education last week approved comings and goings for staffers.

The board received a retirement notice from Betsy Wallace, a first-grade teacher at Oak Street School, effective Sept. 30.

It accepted the resignation of Joanne Finnen, a fifth-grade teacher at Liberty Corner School, on or before Oct. 18. Also accepted were retirement notices of instructional aides Kathy Lawenda at Ridge High School and Deborah Roberts at Mount Prospect School, both effective Aug. 31.

The school board appointed Douglas Marino as district director of facilities at an annual salary of $140,000, effective Sept. 1 through June 30, 2021. He replaces Anthony Bispo, who resigned at the end of the last school year.

The board received the resignations of four instructional aides: Sean Ulichny at Ridge High School (effective July 29), Deborah Sestokas at Mount Prospect School (effective Sept. 18) and Michele Ivarone at Ridge High School and Tyler Shaw at William Annin Middle School, both effective Aug. 31.

Five instructional aides were hired: Nicole Fitzgerald and Ashley Raylock at Mount Prospect School, Samantha Bahna at Ridge High School and Claire Lodato and Tanya Minassian at William Annin Middle School. All but Lodato are for the school year. Lodato, who begins on or before Oct. 24, was approved as a volunteer assistant this fall for Ridge High girls’ volleyball.


Marie Ann Maffei, a secretary in the information technology and facilities district office, resigned, effective Sept. 29.

A child care leave for Christine Gordon, an American Sign Language teacher at Ridge High School, was approved, starting Jan. 3 and returning March 29, 2021. 


The board hired:

n  Phyllis Bresner as a districtwide part-time learning disabilities teacher consultant for the new school year.

n  Rebecca Diserio as a physical education/health teacher at William Annin Middle School for the new school year.

n  Andrew Hogan as a physics science teacher at Ridge High School, effective on or before Oct. 7 through June 30, 2021.

n  Alexa McCaffrey as a maternity-leave replacement speech teacher at Mount Prospect School from Sept. 1 through Jan. 31, 2021.

n  Stephanie Ranieri as a fourth-grade teacher at Liberty Corner School for the school year.

n  Meaghan Slattery as a maternity-leave replacement kindergarten teacher at Cedar Hill School.

n  Suzanne Quigley as a part-time leave replacement teacher in special education at Ridge High School.

n  Linda Ingling as a secretary at Oak Street School, and

n  Sharon Good as a part-time school aide at Oak Street School.
