BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Due to the current COVID-19 closure of Bernards Township schools, kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year registration will be completed online. When school reopens, the district will send parents information about follow-up registration requirements, according to the Bernards Township school district.

Children must turn five years old on or before October 1, 2020 to be eligible to register for and attend kindergarten.

Parents who are not sure of the elementary school their child will attend should refer to the Districting Guide by clicking on the Districting Guide link.

In order to register a child for kindergarten in 2020-21 enter the child’s registration information online using the district's Genesis Open Registration system, which is linked online

Before starting the open registration process in Genesis, parents will need to gather the following  documents:

_ The child’s original birth certificate and a photocopy (the original will be returned to parents at the appointment). For online registration, parents can upload a copy.

_ Three proofs of residency (and a photocopy of each proof). Acceptable proofs of residency include a deed or current lease agreement, a mortgage statement, Bernards Township tax or sewer bills, a homeowner’s insurance bill, credit card or bank statements, utility bills (e.g.,. gas, water, cable, phone) or service set-up confirmations. Copies can be uploaded for online registration.

_ Fully completed physical examination/immunization form, including vision and hearing; linked here.

The form must be signed and stamped by the child’s physician, and the physical exam must be completed within the United States by a U.S. licensed physician.

The physical exam must be completed within 365 days prior to the date of school entry.

For those with a question regarding the health forms that are required for submission, contact school nurse Katie O'Sullivan at

A fully completed health history form is linked there.

Emergency medical information forms are linked here.

In summary, parents must submit the seven documents described above. Children's kindergarten registration will not be processed unless all paperwork is complete. The in-person interview when the school district reopens will require original documentation of birth certificates and proofs of residency.

In addition, if the child has not yet had their annual physical examination, the parent will then be responsible for submitting an updated medical form before the beginning of the new school year. A completed physical examination form must be provided before starting school.

Further instructions will be given out for in-person review

When students physically return to township schools, parents of prospective kindergarten students will receive further registration instructions for an in-person review.
