BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Unofficial results following Tuesday's primary election to determine party nominees for the November general election showed local voters falling in line with their party's choice for a new member of the Bernards Township Committee. Additional votes are pending, according to the county.
Unofficial results as of shortly after 9 p.m. showed that Democrat Sophia Chadda had received 34 votes to clinch the Democratic nomination for the three-year spot that will open up on the Township Committee starting in January 2020. [Updated] By early Wednesday morning, the number of votes for Chadda had risen to 1,075.
Votes for Janice Fields, who received the Republican party nomination for the GOP candidate to be listed on the November ballot, rose to 1,314 votes on Wednesday, up from 215 on Tuesday night.
Fields and Chadda will be competing in November.
As of Wednesday morning, there were 11 write-in votes for Republican candidates for Township Committee, and 5 for Democrats.
Additional votes, including mail-in votes, will be posted on the Somerset County election website as they are counted.
