SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Blue Sheep Bake Shop on Division Street will be a showcase each Saturday in April for the award-winning salted caramel cupcakes judged the winner at the 3rd annual 4-H Cupcake Wars competition.
Bridgewater residents and members of the Somerset County 4-H Master Chefs Club, Samantha DeProspo and Brie Larson won the competition earlier this month held at the Ted Blum 4-H Center in Bridgewater, beating out other 4-H teams from Somerset, Hunterdon and Ocean counties.
All proceeds from the sale of the cupcakes will be donated to the Somerset County 4H Association.
“This event is a great way for 4-H members to meet from all over and showcase their baking skills,” said Harry Brochinsky, 4-H Leader of the Master Chefs. “I am very grateful to Blue Sheep Bake Shop for their offer to showcase the winning cupcake. It is a great thrill for the kids to be recognized this way.”
The rules of the event required that cupcakes had to be made from scratch, that the participants work in teams of 2 or 3, and that each group had to bake 6 cupcakes. Packaged frosting was permitted.
The objectives of the event were to promote self-confidence, to develop public presentation ability, to showcase baking and decorating ability, to work together as a team and to allow for self-expression in a safe supportive environment, as well as meet other 4-H members from around the state.
