BERNARDS TWP., NJ -- As the global coronavirus pandemic begins to see a rise in our communities, the Chinese American Community of Basking Ridge has quickly organized a local effort to help combat the spread of the coronavirus and the resulting COVID-19 disease.
All of us are enormously grateful for the front-line healthcare personnel who are helping the thousands of patients now affected by COVID-19, and we stand in solidarity with all residents of our community in the fight against it. To do our part in supporting healthcare providers and our communities, much-needed materials, including masks, gloves, hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes, have already been collected and donated to the local government, postal offices, fire station, schools, and hospitals (Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center). A fund has been established to enable sustained effort and have raised over $24,000 for such purposes (Gofundme: Basking Ridge Covid2019 Donation).
More protective materials are being secured and procured such as respirators, masks, gloves, protective suits, goggles, face shields, etc.
Special thanks to Mayor James Baldassare for his steady leadership, ongoing support and generosity in guiding the whole Basking Ridge community in this time of need. Thanks to Lucy Forgione, Director of BernardsTownship Health department for helping distribute the PPE to organizations in needs.
As Pope Francis says, “Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit; the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is… Life is good when you are happy, but much better when others are happy because of you.”
United we stand against COVID-19.
God Bless America!
