BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Ridge Youth Sports Varsity Cheerleaders is running a fundraiser for their national cheer competition.

Part of the fundraising process includes “flocking.” Under the cover of darkness, the cheerleader “flock squad” has been placing flamingos on lawns with a letter informing the recipient about how to play along.

The birds “roost” on lawns for several days, or until the cheerleaders remove the birds and move them to their next location. For a suggested donation of $20, the flock will be removed. The donor can also designate their next destination and “flock a friend” for a donation to the team.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will help the cheerleaders on their road to their National Cheer Competition. A portion of the funds raised also will be donated to the Morristown Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center. The squad is also collecting food donations when they move the flocks.
