Each January, the Township Committee appoints a new mayor for the following year, generally the previous year's deputy mayor.

This year's mayor, Mayor Carol Bianchi, also said her unofficial goodbyes at this week's Township Committee on Dec. 10.

That meeting, on Tuesday, will be the last time the Township Committee will meet in 2019, since the governing body voted that night to cancel the last scheduled meeting for this year, set for Monday, Dec. 23.

Bianchi is scheduled to give her last official summation as mayor at the Jan. 2 reorganization meeting, before passing along the gavel to the new township mayor.
