BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Four candidates from both parties officially filed this week to be included on the June 2 primary election ballot to vote for who will represent both the Republicans and Democrats in the November election for two open seats on the Bernards Township Committee.

According to the Bernards Township municipal clerk's office, the two Democrats to file to seek election to the two three-year seats up for grabs this fall include Sophia  Chadda,  6 Carnegie Place, Basking Ridge; and Jonathan Matthew Sandler, 16 Vail Terrace in Basking Ridge.

The Republican candidates who filed to be included on the two ballot lines for Township Committee this fall are James Baldassare, Jr., 85 Queen Anne Drive; and Kathleen M. Grochala    Somerset County Republican Organization 50 Dyckman Place.

Both Baldassare and Grochala, and also Chadda and Sandler have already been vetted and officially endorsed by the local Democratic and Republican organizations.

Baldassare is an incumbent member of the Township Committee. Republican John Carpenter, wrapping up his 15th year on the Township Committee, has announced he will not seek re-election this year.

Additionally, the township clerk's office said that the Somerset County Republican Committee canceled County Committee elections for this year. All seats have been extended to the 2021 Primary.

Vote-by-mail instructions highlighted

The Bernards Township website has highlighted instructions for how residents can sign up to vote by mail in the June 2 primary election.

There is a deadline for April 8 for Somerset County voters to change their party affiliation. Instructions on how to contact the Somerset County Board of Elections are on the Bernards Township website. Voters should contact the county Board of Elections at or Robin French at 908-231-7084.
