BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ The Bernards Township Committee has followed through on a proposal to set up a Veteran's Appreciation Task Force with the initial assignment of researching where to order banners that recognize area veterans.

The banners would be put up on appropriate holidays, such as Memorial Day and July 4, Mayor James Baldassare said after the task force's creation was approved in late January.

The resolution sets the mission of the Veteran’s Appreciation Task Force as researching vendors who specialize in veteran banners for municipal use and explore methods of receiving and processing applications and payment for banners.

The task force is also asked to determine the best location in Bernards Township to erect the banners.

Recommendations due by Feb. 25

The resolution calls for the task force to present its recommendations to the Township Committee by presenting a Veteran’s Banner Report at the Feb. 25 meeting. 

Resident Jennifer Donohoe will be on the task force along with other representatives, including to up to two residents, Township Administrator Pat Monaco, the Bernards Township DPW superintendent or designee, Baldassare said.

He said it is possible that the task force will address other veterans-related projects later in the year.
