BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Free nature walks from the Somerset County Environmental Education Center are coming up this Sunday, Aug. 18, and into September.
No pre-registration is required for the guided and interpretive walks led by EEC naturalists into the Great Swamp.
The 500 acres of the Great Swamp and open space surrounding the EEC offers a variety of habitats encompassing swamps, rivers, marshes, meadows, ponds, and forests, with diverse plant and animal populations.
This Sunday's walk is scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m., starting from the EEC at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge.
The next Sunday walk is scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 22.
The next Saturday walk is scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 7.
The walks are not designed for organized groups. The EEC can be reached at 908-722-1200, ext. 5002. Information on EEC activities also is online at the Somerset County Park Commission website.
The EEC is open year round, except for holidays, 9am to 5pm. Trails are open sunrise to sunset but closed on Deer Management days as scheduled. No pets allowed on trails.
