The Bernards Township Municipal Alliance against Substance Abuse, along with RAAD (Ridge Against Drugs and Alcohol) students are inviting the public to join them for "a deep dive into the devices and ingredients driving the adolescent vaping epidemic."
Along with the presentation, and an opportunity for questions to be answered, the public can learn about resources for quitting that are available to students and parents.
The event will be held in the main meeting room at town hall, 1 Collyer Lane, in Basking Ridge.
Bernards Township on Track to Ban Vape Shops
Following discussion, the Bernards Township Committee voted on Oct. 29 to introduce an ordinance to prohibit vape shops and smoke shops in all township zones.
The proposed ordinance is scheduled for a public hearing and a final vote by the Township Committee at the committee's next meeting, scheduled for 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Earlier in October Township Attorney John Belardo said he is fairly confident that an ordinance banning vape shops could stand up in court. The ordinance, if approved, would not prevent the sale of vaping products at existing supermarkets and convenience stores, where such are already for sale. Some municipalities already have passed laws banning the establishment of vape shops within their borders, officials said.
A concern about the hazards of vaping, especially among young people, has been a concern at both national and local levels, with a number of deaths and respiratory problems linked to the practice.
