The VNA, which holds the popular sale each spring and fall at the Far Hills Fairgrounds off Route 202, is an all-volunteer effort that raises funds to assist uninsured and under-insured patients served by the VNA's health care programs.

Volunteers will be on hand as always to help donors unload their tax-deductible donations that stock the fundraising sale. The items are being checked and placed in the white tented "departments" that already have been erected at the fairgrounds.

"There’s still time to finally attack that overstuffed closet or cluttered basement," the VNA said in its callout to the public. Donated items are checked before being sorted, and put on display in the departments.

Sale dates this fall will run from Friday, Oct. 4, to Sunday, Oct. 6.

The massive sale _ which attracts many hundreds of bargain hunters from throughout New Jersey and beyond _ covers two acres, and offers 25 departments of bargain merchandise.

Items sold include adult and children’s clothing, appliances, antiques, pet supplies, electronics, lighting fixtures, cameras, fabric and sewing accessories, holiday decorations, sporting goods, furniture, jewelry, toys, books, decorative items, kitchen goods, and more. The Bon Ton department sells unique and unusual treasures, including fine collectibles and original arts.

Sale hours, rain or shine

Sale hours are scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with markdowns of merchandise that is left always taking place on the final day, on Sunday, when the sale will be open from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The sale is rain or shine, and has only rarely be postponed for inclement weather. Weather-related updates, if necessary, will be posted on the Rummage Sale Facebook page, @vnarummagesale.

Shoppers can pay for goods with cash, checks (proper identification needed) or credit cards (Mastercard and Visa). Food is available for purchase, cash only.

Admission is free.

Parking is on-site, but limited, so carpooling is recommended. Handicapped parking is available.

The fairgrounds, reachable by Route 202 off Route 202-206, are easy to reach by car or train. The rummage sale is a short walking distance from the NJ Transit Far Hills station. From Manhattan, take NJ Transit from Penn Station.

Proceeds help the VNA give all families equal access to the agency’s full range of home health, hospice care, and adult day services. Funds raised also ensure that all members of our community can benefit from important and innovative programs uncompensated by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance, according to the VNA.
