BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Bernards Township has announced the township's partnership with RAVE Mobile Safety to provide enhanced and streamlined communications to the public via text, email, or whatever format residents chose when they sign up for the system.

Even residents who previously signed up for alerts from the township need to sign up for RAVE Mobile Safety to continue to receive notifications, officials said. The new system allows participants to choose the individual type of alerts they wish to receive, to update their options at any time  if they wish.

The types of announcements that will go out to the public over the RAVE system will include: emergency alerts; health department news; election results; severe weather alerts; road construction; and more. Residents who sign up for the system can select the options for which they will receive alerts, and in what format (e.g., email, texts to mobie phones, etc.).

"We are using RAVE for all of our community notifications except for recreation alerts as they already have a system that is effective for them," Bernards Police Lt. Christopher Hurst said on Sunday.

"Residents that wish to continue to receive notifications from the Township, including emergency notifications, should sign up for the RAVE system and select what notifications they wish to receive and the method that they receive them," Hurst said in an email.

Existing email notification system will continue temporarily to allow residents time to switch

"We will also continue to use the existing email notification system along with RAVE for the next couple of months to allow time for residents to change over," Hurst added in the email.

At the end of last week, residents received an email with details about the new system if they signed up for township alerts in the past.

"By enabling the public to receive information that is important to them, in the format they prefer, we hope to keep people connected with their government," the announcement said.
