NEW YORK -- The body of a young man who was found on the ground near The Vessel, a sculpture at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, was identified as that of a 2019 Ridge High School graduate.

According to a published report in the New York Post, 19-year-old Peter DeSalvo of Basking Ridge did not survive a drop from the sixth floor of the structure on West 33rd Street in Manhattan Saturday evening shortly before 6 p.m.

DeSalvo was a freshman at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, where he was a member of the college's club rugby team. Before graduating from Ridge last June, DeSalvo was a member of the high school football team. He played on the offensive and defensive lines.

When reached for comment, Bill Tracy, who was DeSalvo's football coach at Ridge, said that Bernards Township Board of Education policy precluded him from commenting directly on the news at this time.

"Let’s hug our kids a little extra tonight," said Tracy, who stepped down from his post as varsity coach at Ridge three months ago.
