BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ A new patrol officer who will fill a vacancy in the 38-member Bernards Township police department is scheduled to be sworn in at Tuesday's Bernards Township Committee meeting.

Timothy Polizzi had applied for the position, and is scheduled to officially begin his new job on Wednesday, April 10, according a resolution on the April 9 Township Committee agenda.

A swearing-in ceremony also is scheduled.

Polizzi's appointment was recommended by Police Chief Michael Shimsky, as well as the Township Administrator and Human Resources manager, the resolution said.

He replaces officer Harrison Kirby, who resigned in December, Shimsky said.

Polizzi will begin at a salary in accordance with the police contract with the township, the resolution stated.
