BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ A fire apparently ignited through spontaneous combustion last Saturday night at a home at 27 Knollcroft Road when a contractor who was refinishing floors reportedly left sawdust and chemicals in the same location on the driveway; the combination is blamed for setting off a chain reaction, according to this week's Bernards Township police blotter.

Police said that officers and the Liberty Corner Fire Company responded shortly before 11 p.m. on July 13 to the fire at the house, which was undergoing construction.

There were no injuries and damage was limited to the driveway blacktop and grass in the yard, according to township police.

Police received a report at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, July 15, that an unlocked motor vehicle on Baldwin Court had been burglarized. The vehicle was entered at some time between Sunday night and early Monday morning. Items inside the 2017 Volkswagon Tiguan were shuffled around but according to the owner no items were taken, township police said. No suspects have been identified, police said.

A burglary to an unlocked motor vehicle on Woodward Lane was also reported at about 7 p.m. on the same day, according to township police, according to township police said. 

Police said the owner had apparently first discovered at 7:30 a.m. on that day that a pair of sunglasses and a flashlight of minimal value had been taken from the 2017 red Subaru Crosstrek. The vehicle had apparently been entered at some time between Sunday night and early Monday morning, according to police.

Police also said that at about 1:39 a.m. on Friday, July 19, On 07/19/2019, Ryan Gunther, 22, of Boston, Mass. was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. According to police, Gunther was stopped on Martinsville Road in a 2008 black Jeep Cherokee for an alleged equipment violation. Officer Dustin Lopez allegedly smelled and observed raw marijuana inside the interior of the vehicle while speaking to the man before conducting a search of the vehicle. According to police, marijuana and a marijuana grinder allegedly were discovered.
