BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ "Santa On a Firetruck," a local holiday event and a major annual fundraiser for the all-volunteer Basking Ridge and Liberty Corner fire companies, is being planned for December.
The delivery dates for Santa for both fire companies is set for Saturday, Dec. 21, when Santa will be making his rounds on a firetruck in both the north and south ends of Bernards Township.
As many residents know, the township has two fire companies in Bernards Township: the Basking Ridge Fire Company No. 1; and the Liberty Corner Fire Company. Both of these organizations are “all-volunteer” and responsible for raising the majority of their own funds.
"Santa knows this!" according to the fire companies. "And each year, he does his best to help raise money for the fire departments by hitching a ride on a fire truck and delivering holiday gifts to children’s homes."
In the northern part of the township, those served by the Basking Ridge Fire Co. can register online now. Santa can arrange to come to Basking Ridge homes on a fire truck. Residents served by the Basking Ridge Fire Co. can drop off the gifts to be delivered Drop gifts Dec. 9 or 16.
Participants can deliver a pre-wrapped and clearly marked gift for each participating child in the family and a $60 donation per family (this donation includes the first four gifts) made out to the property fire company. Gift deliveries without Santa are also available.
The gifts can be dropped off at the Basking Ridge fire station at 30 Washington Ave., off West Oak Street, between 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, or from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16.

Liberty Corner Fire Co.'s Santa delivery
Parents can bring their gifts and donation to the Liberty Corner firehouse, at 95 Church St. in Liberty Corner, from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Dec. 15, or between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The fire company will accept cash, check, or credit cards
The gift delivery date will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Online registration will soon begin on the Liberty Corner Fire Co.'s website. Residents can register and will be contacted if they are served by the other fire company, according to the Liberty Corner website.
The morning of the drop off, participants will receive an email with a link to Liberty Corner's Live Santa Tracker to track fire vehicles as well as the stop number and estimate delivery time. The fire company will attempt to text recipients a few stops ahead of the delivery as well. The fire company is unable to accommodate specific delivery times.
Due to time constraints, Santa will only have time to stay for only a few minutes at each stop, the Liberty Corner fire company reminded. "Don’t worry though, Santa has time to sit with and take pictures with each participating child. We will only be delivering gifts to our fire/rescue territory and will be limiting participation to the first 150 households."
