BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ -- The heavy thunderstorms Wednesday evening caused scattered power outages and flooding in Bernards Township.
According to Bernards Chief of Police Mike Shimsky, some moderate street flooding occurred during the storms that moved through the area between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The flooding did not cause any reported damage and subsided after the storm.
JCP&L was reporting approximately 300 customers in Bernards Township were still without power as of 9 a.m. Thursday, although there may have been more in the immediate wake of the storms, which were accompanied by frequent lightning, although the winds were not especially high during the storm.
The township could see more thunderstorms on Thursday in advance of a weekend heatwave which will see temperatures approaching 100 degrees, according to AccuWeather.
