BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- New Jersey has been hit hard by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Non-essential businesses are closed, people are working from home, schools switched to remote learning, and those who aren't staying home, are observing social distancing, as they try to flatten the curve.
Houses of worship in the area are not immune from change. They, too, have gone high-tech. Almost all have great websites, while many are live streaming their services on Sundays. Others, such as St. Mark's Episcopal Church are offering a wide variety of opportunities for people to participate in their church community. Not only are Sunday services live streamed, services are streamed daily at 10 a.m. St. Mark's also offers prayer groups that meet twice a week on Zoom, a "Coffee Hour" after the Sunday Service on Zoom and more.
Father Rick Morley from St. Mark's said the response to all the online offerings has been "incredible." In fact more people "'attended' last Sunday's service than usually attend on a normal Sunday morning." Another big success was the "Coffee Hour" after Sunday Service, during which people could "chat and talk about how they are doing," he said.
