FLEMINGTON, NJ -- Senior quarterback Brendan Bell passed for two touchdowns and ran for one to lead Ridge to a 29-13 football  victory over Hunterdon Central on opening night Friday.

Ridge opened a 15-0 lead in the second quarter. Bell started the scoring with a 28-yard keeper and Luke Roberts' conversion run gave Ridge an 8-0 lead. In the second quarter, halfback Jack Perry took a pass from Bell and scored on a play that covered 19 yards. Jake Beckman followed with the first of his three PAT kicks.

Hunterdon Central (1-1) came back with a TD pass with a minute left before halftime to close to within 15-7. The home team then opened the scoring in the third quarter with a 4-yard run by Will Ezema, but Hunterdon Central's attempt for the tying two-point conversion was stopped by Ridge's defense, as Ridge held a 15-13 lead.

Before the fourth quarter began, Ridge uncorked its longest play of the game, an 82-yard pass play from Bell to Cameron Lloyd with 4:21 left in the third to extend its lead to 22-13. Bell completed 8 of 13 passes for 188 yards. In the final period, Ridge turned to its punishing ground game, and fullback Christian Sweeney barreled 34 yards for a TD to cap the scoring with 8:44 left in the game.

Ridge will play its first home game next Friday night against Bridgewater-Raritan (1-1) at 7 p.m.
